Loneliness and social isolation
We spend our entire lives building friendships. They are our support network and make us who we are. However, as we get older we may find it difficult to get out and about, we may have lost touch with our friends and relatives and we may find ourselves feeling lonely and isolated.
Age UK Essex Befriending Service supports these very people. Volunteers are carefully matched up to specific older people who then receive a telephone call once a week. Just like a true friend, volunteers take time to listen and share life’s ups and down. This service is free of charge.
The Giving Tree
The festive season is almost here. For many this is the best time of year, but for others Christmas can be a isolating and lonely time. This Christmas Age UK Essex have set up a Giving Tree in The Meadows Shopping Centre, Chelmsford to donate presents to some of the older people that the Befriending Service supports. Donate a present and help to make this Christmas that little bit more special for someone.
Support our appeal
As well as supporting individuals by donating a gift this Christmas, the service also needs vital funds to continue and develop to support people not just through telephone calls but face to face too.
Every supporter enables us to continue to provide more lonely older people across Essex with a befriender. Donations for The Giving Tree appeal will go directly to the Befriending Service to help enable more of the work we do. We appreciate hugely the help our supporters give by donating. Thank you.
What your money can help with
£5 could pay for a befriending telephone call to a lonely older person
£50 could go towards a regular visit from a home befriender to a lonely older person
And amount you're able to donate will stay in Essex to help older people living in Essex.
